Midnight Bridge brings together poet Murray Reiss and singer-songwriter Phil Vernon for a stunning performance of "folkenword," a layering and jamming of original songs and poems that is by turns poignant, thought-provoking, and side-splittingly funny. The Salt Spring Island writer/performers engage the humanity and absurdity of our times -- from toxic rivers to home-grown strawberries -- weaving "a palpable magic, infused with wisdom and a commitment to speak out against injustice."
Known for his songs The Ballad of Percy Schmeiser, GE Free and Red Fife Wheat, Phil Vernon celebrates the lives and struggles of people everywhere with humour, insight and a passion for justice. Murray Reiss's poems have been published in literary magazines and anthologies in Canada and the United States; his recent chapbook, Distance from the Locus, has been praised for how well it reflects the urgency with which we live.
Both are smallhold subsistence gardeners, taking a short break from the compost heap to perform.
